It was like a dream when I stepped my foot into the greatest citadel of learning, Government College Ibadan.
The beauty of its environment fed my eyes. The glory of the school rang in my ears. Reality dawned on me the moment I got admitted into the school with a bag filled with books.
We worked on farms, not as labourers, but given adequate skills to survive. Most times, the hoes and cutlasses represent the required tool to survive in the field of life.
My aspiration for a better future and my mission on the fertile soil of my school grew in strength and wealth. My predecessors once quoted the lyrics of the school song “service to others not to self.” I realized that whatever we do in life, we should render it with honesty, discipline, Justine, and fairness.
GCI, as fondly called by people, is a world class structure with well-equipped laboratories, conducive classrooms, sporting facilities, health facility (health hub) and experienced teachers who are dedicated to their works.
In addition, creativity lives in the heart of her students. Notable public speakers like Master Elechi Ifeanyichukwu and Sir Kayode Adeyemo (Sir Kay) can’t be easily forgotten. The old Boys Association of my school has contributed greatly to the overall development of the school.
Generations shall come and go but our pride in you will for aye remain. The footprints and the vision of notable men is the pendulum that echoes the sound of greatness and success.
