My Nation’s Breathe

Adegbite Happiness Samuel // SSS 3H
Vice President, GCI Press Club (2020/2021)

We have embarked on a journey of pains and agony,
Accompanied with sorrows that flow in my vein
The path which we lay our feet
Burn like a deadly furnace
As I wander like a lost sheep

We have eaten taboos and munched curses
Dwelling in my wretched mind,
If the sun could set at night
And the moon by midday
Democracy shall sow evil seeds

If centuries were moulded before my naked eyes,
The decades have drawn before our nose
The blowing of the siren
Turns the cloud red
As the stars echo in beautified sorrow.

Waters filled in baskets
Flow along the tears of our eyes,
The rain shall beat away drums of its cane
We have tilled the soil with fertile ashes of our tears
But it brings forth fruits.

Listen to the cries of the land!
And the wailing of the wall!
Hell we live, in paradise of torment
As sadness writes to you
The sadness of our “nation’s breathe”
Offspring breathe in our nation’s breathe.
